Substance Abuse

Intensive Outpatient Program - IOP

What is IOP?

Substance abuse intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) are direct services for people with substance use disorders or co-occurring mental and substance use disorders who do not require medical detox or 24-hour supervision. IOPs are alternatives to inpatient and residential treatment. They are designed to create social supports and facilitate relapse management and healthy coping strategies.

IOPs introduce and reinforce healthy ways of interacting with others and provide a safe environment for participants who may feel vulnerable in the early phases of sobriety. Patients who are further along in their recovery process often provide support for new participants and reinforce and strengthen their own sobriety.

Recovery at an IOP deals with the issues that cause substance abuse and addiction. Learning to address these causes of addiction can help you learn relapse prevention to stay sober.

Benefits of IOP services:

  • Relating to others who have or are struggling with similar issues to your own
  • Building a sober support system
  • Sharing relapse prevention strategies and healthy coping skills
  • Feeling less alone in recovery
  • Sharing openly without fear of judgment
  • Finding new ways to cope with painful feelings without using substances
  • Addressing problems related to social, psychological, and emotional well-being
  • Forming connections that are an important part of rebuilding a life of sobriety and breaking the isolation one experiences in active addiction

IOP fulfills: Court; DCS; and Substance Abuse requirements.

You may choose to come voluntarily to strengthen your relapse prevention skills in a safe and encouraging environment while building or expanding your sober support system.

Please note that you do not have to attend every session each week unless mandated to do so. IOP is set up for working adults to attend as their schedule allows.

To receive a Certificate of Completion you will need 48 groups. Each group is 3 hours long with two 15-minute breaks and you must stay the duration of the group to receive credit for the day.
